Hafþór “The Mountain” Björnsson Withdraws from the 2025 Rogue Invitational

In a surprising turn just days before the 2025 Rogue Invitational kicks off in Aberdeen, Scotland, strongman legend Hafþór “The Mountain” Björnsson has officially withdrawn from the competition.

Björnsson — a former World’s Strongest Man and multiple-time Arnold Strongman Classic champion — announced on October 22, 2025, that he would not be competing due to a right shoulder and nerve issue affecting his pressing power. The decision, while difficult, reflects his commitment to long-term health and performance integrity rather than pushing through injury.

Despite stepping back from the full contest, “Thor” hinted that he might still take part in a single event — the iconic 18-inch deadlift — if organizers allow it. Even limited participation from the Icelandic powerhouse would no doubt electrify the Aberdeen crowd.

The Rogue Invitational, running October 31 – November 2, is one of the most prestigious events in the strength and fitness world, bringing together elite athletes from Strongman, CrossFit, and Strongwoman divisions. Björnsson’s absence reshuffles the leaderboard projections and opens the door for other top competitors — including defending champion Mitchell Hooper — to claim the spotlight.
